Dark Sky Park

Puur Terschelling is a proud partner of Dark Sky Park De Boschplaat, a unique nature reserve on Terschelling where night is still truly dark. This area is officially recognised as a Dark Sky Park due to its exceptional darkness and minimal light pollution. Here, nature gets all the space it needs at night too, and stars, planets and the Milky Way are still clearly visible on clear nights. As a partner, we feel closely connected to this special place and actively contribute to preserving the darkness and raising awareness of its importance for both people and nature. On the grounds of Puur Terschelling, a special 'Puur darkness' experience area has been created with seating and loungers, a bird and star-watching tower, and an observatory. Even in less favourable weather conditions, the stargazing experience remains accessible thanks to a VR experience, which still provides a form of 'star guarantee'.

Night-time experiences on the island

To make this unique quality experiential, Puur Terschelling organises various evening and night excursions in the Dark Sky Park. From 1st October to 1st April, these activities are provided by 4x4 Land Rover tours, whilst from 1st April to 1st November the excursions take place by horse-drawn wagon. During these journeys, we take guests through the vast landscape of De Boschplaat, far away from artificial light and hustle and bustle. Along the way, they experience the silence, the space and the magic of the night, whilst we share stories about the starry sky, life in the dark and the special ecosystem of the area. These excursions combine adventure and relaxation with education and wonder, and show how special it is to experience nature not just during the day, but especially in the dark too.
