Corporate Social Responsibility at Puur Terschelling
Puur Terschelling is a farming business. Attention to people, animals and the environment are traditionally core values. What is completely natural to us is nowadays referred to as Corporate Social Responsibility. Puur Terschelling holds a regenerative business style in high regard. Pure island experiences, hospitality and animal welfare are central to our family business. We closely follow social developments and continue to invest in them. This way we keep moving forward continuously.
Puur Terschelling offers the purest nature and island experience on Terschelling
People-focused
The safety of people and animals comes first. We use many new insights and practical tools, such as a mounting platform for riders. Additionally, we regularly attend training on safety matters. We think it's important that everyone can enjoy the pure island experience. That's why we offer activities for various target groups and maintain lots of personal contact with our guests. This way we can respond even better to everyone's wishes. For Puur Terschelling, satisfied employees are also crucial. After all, those who feel good about themselves work with enthusiasm.

Animal welfare
Animal welfare is the foundation at Puur Terschelling. We care for our animals with lots of love, respect and attention. Almost all horses in our herd come from our own breeding; they are descendants of Anne's first two Friesian horses. The fact that they live in a herd (and are family) provides peace and stability. We know our horses inside and out and dare to say they have good character traits. They are calm, reliable, sweet and patient. We ensure that our horses feel good about themselves. Our team is proud of all the certificates and quality marks that underpin our way of working. But ultimately, the horses themselves are our calling card. Thanks to their healthy appearance and friendly behaviour, they show that we're doing things right.
Puur facilities:
- Horses run outside year-round, with unlimited silage
- Riding with peace and respect
- Mounting block to relieve the horse's back
- Living in a herd
Respect for the environment
All activities at Puur Terschelling take place in the island's beautiful natural environment. We consider it only natural to treat this with respect. We love sharing our passion for the environment with our island guests. Our staff have extensive knowledge of the flora, fauna (and even astronomy). We tell guests how they can enjoy nature responsibly. The Puur site is designed to complement the landscape, using many natural and reclaimed materials. Furthermore, our sheep graze on the Waddendijk and the horses in the dunes, helping nature along the way. Where possible, we support local initiatives and are happy to contribute in various ways to preserving island traditions.
Puur facilities:
- The campsite is enclosed with natural garden walls
- We are permitted to fly the Wadden Sea World Heritage flag
- We are Waddengoud certified
- We practice agricultural nature management in the polder
- We contribute to local traditions and customs
Sustainable and self-sufficient
Our goal is to become completely self-sufficient by 2030. We're already well on our way! Solar panels, geothermal energy, Puur groundwater, high-efficiency boilers in all buildings… And we continue to invest so that we can eventually achieve 'net zero'. We try to limit waste streams as much as possible. Rubbish is sorted so it can be recycled. Our pigs are grateful for all the leftover vegetables, bread and fruit. When you come to stay at the farm, you're doing so in a Puur sustainable way. We've installed many sustainable facilities in both the apartment and the dune tents.
