Puur Sil

Sil's arrival was unexpected, but certainly not unwelcome! At Puur Terschelling, we prefer our mares to be bred naturally, so our Friesian stallion Jilles was kept with a herd of mares that were meant to be covered. However, Jilles had plans of his own. One night, he escaped from the pasture near the Eerste Eendenkooi and paid a visit to one of our other herds. There he found our mare Lenna, and not long after Jilles' adventure, we noticed that Lenna was behaving a little differently than usual. It soon became clear why—she was in foal! Although Lenna is a piebald mare, in the spring of 2015 she gave birth to a beautiful jet-black colt: Sil, the son of Jilles, named after Sil de Strandjutter. Today, Sil has grown into the clown of the herd and is one of our true Puur talents. Together with his half-brother Aike, he loves getting up to the same mischievous antics as their father. He is always happy to carry his riders through the beautiful nature of Terschelling, and with Sil, there's always something to smile about.
