Puur Sil

Sil's arrival was unexpected, but certainly not unwelcome! Because we at Puur Terschelling prefer to have our mares covered naturally, our Friesian stallion Jilles was in a herd with mares that were to be bred. But Jilles had his own plans: one night he escaped from the field at the Eerste Eendenkooi and went to visit one of our other herds. Our mare Lenna was there, and not long after Jilles' breakout we noticed that Lenna was behaving 'differently than usual'. It turned out she was pregnant! Lenna is a piebald horse, but in the spring of 2015 she gave birth to a beautiful jet-black foal: Sil, son of Jilles and named after Sil de Strandjutter. Sil has now grown into the clown of the herd and is one of our young talents. He's curious but also a bit clumsy. He loves to take you on his back through the Terschelling countryside, and with Sil there's always something to laugh about.
